Funding and grants
You can contact the warm home check service to find out if funding or grants are available to help you keep warm and well at home. The service can also help check if you’re eligible for government winter support schemes.
Some of the energy efficiency funding and schemes include:
Home Upgrade Grant: homes with no gas boiler
This government grant is available for energy saving improvements to homes with no gas boiler.
To be eligible, you must:
- own and live in the property you’re applying for (or privately rent it)
- not use a gas boiler as your home’s main heating system
- have an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F or G
If you do not know your home’s EPC, you can find it out when you apply.
You’ll usually need to have a household income of £36,000 a year or less.

Boiler upgrade scheme
This grant is available to help fund low-carbon heating and improve the energy efficiency of a property. The grant will not pay for the whole upgrade but will contribute towards it.

Energy company obligation (ECO)
This grant is available for insulation and heating upgrades for low-income and vulnerable households. To find out more:

Warm Home discount
This is an automatic, one-off £150 discount on your electricity bill. You get it if you are on a low-income or receiving the Guaranteed Credit part of Pension Credit.

Cold Weather Payment
If the temperature drops below zero for 7 days in a row, you’ll get this payment if you receive:
- Pension Credit
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Universal Credit
- Support for Mortgage Interest
Winter Fuel Payment
This payment is for people born before 23 September 1958 who receive:
- Pension Credit
- Universal Credit
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income Support
- Child Tax Credit
- Working Tax Credit
